People and organizations are motivated to share abortion stories for a wide variety of reasons. This multi-year project explores how people write/share their abortion stories, and how human-centered technology can support stigmatized storytelling and broader reproductive care.

After encountering a high number of fraudulent responses on a digital survey, we developed a multi-step protocol and participant validation guide for preventing and identifying fraudulent responses on digital recruitment surveys. I presented our findings and lessons learned at CHI 2024 in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
ARC is a qualitative method for engaging participants in reflective activities across time in a remote, online space. The ProHealth Lab at IU conducted a scoping review of how researchers have utilized this method since its inception.
A systematic review of how the SIGCHI research community has engaged participants around female reproductive health, conducted by an international team.

I collaborated with Dr. Cassidy Sugimoto and a team of multi-continental researchers to investigate the discourse used by TED Talk presenters across gender and academic vs. non-academic status. I analyzed transcript metadata from videos posted to the TED website and crafted figures for use in the final paper.
We found clear, gendered divides in the language and topics covered by women vs. men, motivating further investigation into popular science discourse and TED's speaker selection process.

I worked with Dr. Andrew J. Weaver in the IU Institute of Communication Research on a project to explore moral decisions in video game environments. Using Moral Foundations Theory, we designed an experimental study to record the impact of different emotions on the way that people play choice-based narrative video games. I conducted in-depth observations and compiled my findings to inform our choice of game.

Another study with Dr. Andrew Weaver, we leveraged Social Identity Theory to explore racial dynamics in film marketing. We designed a study to track participant eye movement in response to movie posters and measured desire to see the films. Analysis would have informed the use of marketing materials to mitigate in-group vs. out-group associations that sometime motivate un-diverse casting. I used Adobe Photoshop to generate movie posters for use as stimulus.
